**Create a Dimension Table**

Learn how to create a dimension table in Confidence.

[Do this via the API →](/docs/reference/api/how-to-guides/metrics/create-dimension-table.md)

A [dimension table](/docs/capabilities/metrics/dimension-tables.md) lets you segment your entities.

## Create a Dimension Table

**1. Go to Confidence**

**2. Select Admin > Data Tables > Dimension tables**

On the left sidebar, select **Admin**, then **Data Tables**, then **Dimension tables**.

**3. Click Create**

**4. Enter a name for the dimension table**

In the **About** section, enter a name for the table in the **Name** field. Optionally, select an **Owner**.

**5. Enter the SQL that selects your dimension rows**

In the **Query** section, enter the SQL query and click **Run query**. See the [SQL query section](/docs/capabilities/metrics/dimension-tables.md#sql-query) in the reference documentation for more information.

**6. Configure the table**

In the **Configure table** section, map the entity column and dimension columns from the query result.

**7. Click Create**

When you click **Create**, the dimension table goes into state `CREATING`. Confidence then runs a sample query towards the dimension table to verify that the SQL query produces columns that match what you've specified. After this the table either enters the `ACTIVE` or `FAILED` state.
